ABOUT PCC

Pleasantville Children's Center has been a beloved staple in the community for five decades. Our parents, teachers, volunteers and enrichment providers recognize the importance of providing quality early childhood education programs for young children that expand outside the walls of a classroom.

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1972 by a group of mothers working together at Reader’s Digest and looking for a truly special place for their children to learn and grow, Pleasantville Children’s Center has provided a nurturing environment for our community’s preschoolers for five decades. Located in a quaint, antique Carriage House and nestled among oak trees, PCC is a valuable part of the Mount Pleasant community. While our educational methods have evolved over time, our fundamental philosophy remains the same: early childhood growth through a developmentally appropriate curriculum emphasizing self-expression, discovery, and problem solving with the goal of fostering a life-long enjoyment of learning.

OUR PARENTS

Parents are an integral part of the PCC program. A volunteer Board of Directors, made up of dedicated parents, runs our school. Through participation in school-day and PCC community activities, parents have the opportunity to take an active role in their children's preschool experience and perhaps even form some lasting friendships of their own. In addition, parents plan and host several school and class-wide events, parties and fundraisers throughout the year. We're proud to say that many wonderful friendships (both child and adult) have been developed through the school!

OUR COMMUNITY

Since its inception 50 years ago, PCC has been focused on the families and community it serves. Events such as the annual Fall and Spring Picnics at the Park, Pancake and Pajama Party, Cocktail Party/Silent Auction and Library Art Show, put the children and their families in touch with one another outside of the school environment. During a typical school year, children take walking trips around the surrounding village to visit and learn about important community professionals and local businesses. Visitors to the program include Firefighters, Police Officers, a Dentist and others depending on the year!
